It’s finally nice to see things getting better for Charice Pempenco with the release of a new single entitled Pyramid. This little but extremely talented Filipina has come a long way and is definitely on the way to being more successful. Though being extremely talented, this hardworking Filipina singer has been criticized in the past, both locally and abroad, for not having her own material. But with the release of this new single and an eventual album release later this year, Charice may well be on to greater heights in her career.

Her music is also now available on iTunes http://bit.ly/by5Yg8

New Friendster Branding Sucks

12:07 am in Friendster by Archon Digital

friendsterLooking at the latest change from the world’s first social network, yes they came around first in 2003, the new “hip” and “trendy” Friendster logo sucks. I do strongly believe that the old logo had more sense and credibility and was in no need of changing if not for a minor facelift. Well I guess it may appeal to the Asians of the 16-24 age bracket and to those who have hoRriBlE tYPiNg skills according to their research but not to us “older” people. Yeah call me old, I’m in my 30’s now and yes, you can call me old. continue reading…

The Importance of Connection

6:14 am in Featured, Love and Relationships by Preaching Knight

I had dinner with two friends who were in the testing phase of what could be. They came from different parts of the world but were both exposed to the complexities of culture. They were broadminded and were careful not to rush into something they might regret in the future. Along the course of our meal we came to a point of how to find out if you were meant to be. I pondered and blurted out two significant and vital parts of the “knowing” process. I said you have to primarily connect on two levels of communication, the verbal and the non-verbal. And, as Mr. Covey states, “Begin with the end in mind”. Read the rest of this entry →

Am I a Farmville Addict?

10:31 am in Facebook by Preaching Knight

A lot of games have proliferated the pages of facebook but to my opinion, nothing has caught our hearts as much as farmville. This joyful and harmless game of planting, harvesting and caring for animals satisfy our need for immediate gratification and reward. Kids old enough to press keys and understand the process of farming enjoy the evolving small plot of land into an emerging plantation. Adults loose sleep over the countless animals, trees and friends they have to help. The constant battle for coins, FV cash and the purchase of tractors and more land arouse the green monster of greed. Others have tried to imitate this wonderful game but they could not overcome it’s luster.

Hi, my name is… I am a farmville addict…

Yes, the Mafia and Racing games have joined the battle for supremacy but they have not been able to tap the range of players the way farmville has. Other games have tried to compete but boredom creeps in at an early stage. Not to mention the unique opportunities and relationships forged at the marketplace. Honestly, I had to purposely quit cold turkey or this game would have take over the most productive and leisure times of my life. If you cannot pass a day without visiting your farm and checking if it’s time to harvest your strawberries, you need to join the support group of former farmville addicts and state… Hi, my name is… I am a farmville addict…

To add or not to add and EX on facebook?

9:31 am in Facebook by Preaching Knight

Facebook has done wonders in connecting us to people we may have forgotten long ago. The cravings of curiosity push us to search and click on profiles that normally we have tossed into oblivion. The proliferation of strangers requesting addition to our list of friends make it easy to conceal those we would be afraid to admit to a present romance. Secret conversations, deleted messages and private settings characterize these concealed visits to the past. Have we entered an era of virtual promiscuity? What repercussions have we allowed to creep into our lives? Does this strengthen or weaken our commitment to our present Beau? I suggest precaution, these virtual temptations pose as present day Pandora’s boxes that may invite evil we may be unable to control. The truth lies in the fact that time and seasons change people. What we have dreamed to have in the past and not attained is not guaranteed to be found when we try to reconnect or continue a lost flame. Most of what has been lost is lost for a reason. If we were meant to be, let the normal and natural course of events finds its way into our present. If it was meant to be, we need not make things happen. In the meantime, only if you know where you stand and are stable emotionally and intellectually, keep them for what you have added for…just friends…

Typhoon Lupit Gains Strength as it Nears Northern Philippines

2:49 am in News by d65blade

Typhoon Ramil has intensified and is now slowly moving towards Northern Luzon.

It now packs peak winds of 175 km per hour gusting up to 210 kph according to weather officials and was “almost stationary” for a few hours Sunday before moving slowly west. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Cagayan either this Wednesday evening or early Thursday.

“The more days it spends over sea, the more it is intensifying,” said Nathaniel Cruz of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Lupit means Cruel

The typhoon’s interntional name Lupit is the Filipino word for cruel. This is also the 18th typhoon to enter the Philippines this year and is expected the hit provinces of Northern Luzon even as the region is still reeling from the massive devastation caused by Typhoon Pepeng earlier this month.

Relief Goods sent in Advance

Military and civilian officials have mobilized its relief goods distribution in preparation for the coming typhoon which is expected to further intensify as it nears the northern part of Luzon.

“All the units of the Northern Luzon Command have also been alerted,” said Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr., spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The government has positioned its assets for possible preemptive evacuation on danger areas as to avoid further loss of lives and property.

The weather service warned that seven dams in northern Luzon had been releasing water in anticipation of heavy rains.

Last month Sept 26, widespread flooding killed approximately 380 people and displaced 4.33 million others in and around Metro Manila as Ondoy brought a month’s rainfall within a span of six hours to the metropolis. Super typhoon Pepeng hit northern Luzon a week later and hovered over the region for more than one week, causing massive landslides and floods that left more than 430 people dead and displaced 3.8 million others.

As of this moment an estimated 266,000 civilians remain in overcrowded evacuation camps with reports of a bacteria-borne disease called leptospirosis claiming the lives of 93 people in flooded areas.

holding-hands

Many people end up regretting the person they are with because they have allowed emotions to take precedence over what is logical. Stimulation from media and social influence has greatly affected the way we choose a significant other. Many times, our fantasies or ideals surpass or cloud the obvious and plain truth staring right at us. Our constant association and interaction with who we are with become something we often perceive as the one in our dreams. Read the rest of this entry →

Not Evil, Just Wrong – a documentary challenging Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"

10:10 pm in Environment, Featured by Archon Digital

endoftheworld

In response to former US Vice President Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” comes a documentary made to challenge the facts that the world is about to come to an end. “Not Evil, Just Wrong” is a full length documentary featuring scientific evidence along with the economic consequences of making too much of a drastic change to reduce global warming.

The film focuses on several factual errors cited in the eye opening documentary by Al Gore and is said to contain facts which will disprove a lot of Al Gore’s facts.

For Filipinos, witnessing the deadly effects of global warming first hand with the onslaught of typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, we have very little time to debate on what is factual or not. The truth remains the same, the environment is at a very poor state than it was a 100 years back and violent changes are taking place this very moment.

When the time comes for us to see who is right or wrong, it could all be too late. Maybe we are not calling for environmental extremism and to demand that we “freeze” all of civilization’s heavy polluting industries and go back to the dark ages but instead, point industry into the right direction for change. Not drastic change, only change or steps to take pointing towards an inevitable change. Making smarter moves in the direction of being environmentally aware and eventually bring harmony and balance to the planet we all call home.

Documentary Director Escorted Out of Conference for Questioning Gore

The director of “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” Phelim McAleer, gained much publicity after he dared to ask Mr. Gore a question at the Society of Environmental Journalists annual conference. The former Vice President did not answer the questions the organizers deemed inappropriate and had Mr. McAleer’s microphone muted and him escorted him out of the conference. The questions he asked were about a report leading to 9 factual errors on the highly-acclaimed documentary by Al Gore.
